Academic Success Center is hiring Peer Tutors:
Are you looking for opportunities to work on campus? Interested in using your academic skills to help your fellow wildcat? The Academic Success Center may be the place for you! Staff have available Peer Tutor positions for the following subjects:
- Math (All Maths)
- Accounting
- Finance
- Spreadsheet Design for Business Solutions
- Nutrition
- Food Safety
Position Summary:
Peer Tutors are an integral piece to student success at Johnson & Wales University. The Academic Success Center strategically hires qualified students as Peer Tutors to serve as campus leaders and a resource towards student retention and persistence to graduation. Peer Tutors have a history of strong academic performance in a particular subject(s) and use their expertise to aid students seeking assistance. This assistance is offerred in both drop-in and appointment based tutoring formats. Peer Tutors generally work approximately 20-25 hours per week and during down time performs clerical duties such as managing the front desk, greeting visitors, answering phones, scheduling appointments, fielding basic questions about the department, delivering tests to academic departments, and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
- Strong academic performance in tutoring subject
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to partner and establish rapport with faculty, staff, and students
- Must be punctual and able to manage time effectively
- Knowledge of effective tutoring strategies
How to Apply:
Complete the Peer Tutor Application Form and return to the Academic Success Center.- An unofficial transcript must be attached to application upon submission.
- The Instructor Recommendation Form (located on page 2 of application) must be completed by a JWU faculty member who teaches the subject the applicant is seeking to tutor.
